Crime Stoppers is Calling all "Cowpoke"
Crime Stoppers is on the look out for cowboys, cowgirls and tumbleweeds for its 5th annual Jail or Bail fundraiser being held on June 24, 2008 at the Simcoe Town Centre on West Street in Simcoe. The theme for this year’s fundraiser is “The Wild West” and some participants, like Sheila “Sassafras” Shinkaruk (of Port Dover’s On The Fringe), have already started collecting pledges.
“This event is a very popular one because participants have such a fun time with the different themes each year,” said Crystal Washik, chairperson for the Jail or Bail fundraiser. She added, “So if your cowboy hat bigger than your car, or if cattle rustling been a tradition in your family since “Billy the Kid” was a tenderfoot, then Crime Stoppers would like you to give us a call at 519-426-3434 ext 4240 to see how easy it is to participate in this great event.”
Jailbirds in this humorous and light-hearted event will be required to appear before a judge and answer to charges like “circling the wagon train” and “indecent use of chaps” in violation of acts such as the “Happy Trails to You” act and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” act. After hearing arguments in relation to charges (legal counsel will be provided for those brave enough to want it), the judge will set bail and offenders will then be held in Crime Stoppers custody at the “Crowbar Hotel” (aka temporary jail cell at the mall) where they can call friends, family and co-workers to help bail them out.
Crime Stoppers gives people an anonymous, confidential way of getting information to authorities without ever having to get involved as a witness. Since the program’s inception in 1988, Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg has helped solve almost 3400 cases, has assisted in the seizure of over $28.6 million worth of narcotics and has assisted in the recovery of more than $4 million worth of stolen property.
