Crime Stoppers Invites Surfers to Check Out New Website

In order to stay on the cutting edge of technology and better its communication, Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg is pleased to launch a new website highlighting the crime fighting program. Located at the same address as the program’s previous site of www.helpsolvecrime.com this site not only contains current “Crime of the Week” unsolved cases and educative material about the program, but it also re-enforces the option for tipsters to report anonymous tips online.

Crime Stoppers is certain that visitors to www.helpsolvecrime.com are going to find the new site very informative and easy to navigate in. Chairperson Gord Little comments, "We have been working on the redevelopment of our site with the goal of launching it in our 20th anniversary year.” He adds, “Because one of our goals for this year is increased communication, the site contains some new features including a ‘top stories’ section and a “Crime of the Week” section that will be updated on a weekly basis to keep the public better informed on what is going on in our area.”

Ken Schaus, Past Chairperson for Crime Stoppers and 20th Anniversary Committee Chairperson states, “We wanted to focus on increasing communication through our website because we know that more and more people are turning to the internet for information.” He continues, “Now with a simple click of a mouse all the most current Crime Stoppers information is available for everyone to see.”

Crime Stoppers’ new website was created by local web designer Jeff Cunningham of SlypigPro in Caledonia. Cunningham opened his own business full-time in 2004 and was responsible for designing the program’s previous site which in 2002 was awarded “Best Website” by Crime Stoppers International.

Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg was founded in 1988 and this year celebrates its 20th anniversary of fighting crime in the area. Since the program’s inception, over 8000 anonymous tips have been received through the local 1-800-222-TIPS tipsline. Some of these tips have assisted local investigators in seizing more than $30.7 million worth of illegal narcotics, recovering over $4.1 million worth of stolen property and laying more than 4800 charges – all in the areas of Tillsonburg, Norfolk and Haldimand! Cash rewards up to $2000 are also offered for information that helps to solve a case and to date have totalled over $219,000 being paid to anonymous callers.
