Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg recently returned from the 22nd annual Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers training conference once again bearing several awards celebrating the success of the local crime fighting program through excellence in media coverage.
Three media partners were recognized for their commitment to Crime Stoppers throughout 2007 in various categories. CD 98.9 fm won an award for “Best Feature Coverage in Radio” for Gerry and Kate’s “Mrs Know It All” segment; The Simcoe Reformer was presented with an award for “Best Feature Coverage in Print” for a public service announcement and Rogers Television was honored with three separate awards for “Best Crime of the Week Coverage in Television,” “Best Special Feature in Television,” and “Best Special Project” – all recognizing the excellence of their weekly show called “City Watch.”
“It gives our program great pleasure to be recognized at the provincial level in partnership with our local media because the work they do for Crime Stoppers is nothing short of excellent,” states Gord Little, Crime Stoppers Chairperson. He adds, “Our media partners are vital stakeholders in the program and it is because of their continued commitment that Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg has been able to achieve great success in making our streets safer for individuals and families across our coverage area.”
Held in Hamilton from May 31 – June 2, 2008, the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers training conference hosted just under 170 delegates from across the province as well as several attendees from western Canada and the United States.
