Crime Stoppers Raffle Reaches for the Skies
Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg and Pilot Insurance will take to the skies as they partner to launch the 2008 “Hot Air Balloon” ticket raffle where one lucky ticket buyer will win a hot air balloon ride in the Pilot Insurance balloon over Jarvis’ Cornfest weekend in August. Tickets are being sold for $2 each (or 3 tickets for $5) and can be purchased from any Crime Stoppers board member until August 11, 2008. The draw for the winner will take place on August 12, 2008 at the CD 98.9 fm building.
“This is the second time Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg has partnered with Pilot Insurance to hold a hot air balloon raffle and we cannot thank them enough for their outstanding support,” said Barbara Howden, chairperson for the raffle committee. She added, “This is a really fun event and we hope that everyone will get a ticket for their chance to win a spectacular view from the skies above Jarvis.”
Crime Stoppers would also like to recognize Dennis Howden of Haldimand Insurance Brokers in Caledonia who has once again been an integral part in organizing this event.
Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg this year celebrates its 20th anniversary of fighting crime in the community. Because Crime Stoppers is a community based and owned program, the board of directors is responsible for privately raising all the funds needed to run the program. Other fundraisers for the year include a spring gala (May), Jail or Bail (June) and an annual golf tournament (August 21, 2008).
Crime Stoppers gives people an anonymous, confidential way of getting information to authorities without ever having to get involved as a witness. The program’s toll free 1-800-222-TIPS phone line and www.helpsolvecrime.com webtips are operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since the program’s inception in 1988, Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg has helped solve over 3400 cases, has assisted in the seizure of over $30.9 million worth of narcotics and has assisted in the recovery of more than $4.1 million worth of stolen property.
