New Police Coordinator for Crime Stoppers

January 9, 2008, Simcoe, ON - With the new year upon us, Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg will not only experience a new year filled with many opportunities to help make our communities safer, but the program also kicked the year off with the arrival of a new police coordinator – Constable Hal Brown. Constable Brown works for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)(Haldimand Detachment) and brings almost 24 years of policing experience to the position.

“Constable Brown has extensive experience in community policing, schools, media relations and is well known in his community. As a result, the board is excited to have him join our crime fighting team,” said Gord Little, Chairperson for Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg.

Constable Brown joined OPP civilian coordinator Lisa Wies in the Crime Stoppers office on January 2, 2008. Brown began his career in Ridgetown and ten years later transferred to Haldimand and has worked from this location ever since. Constable Teresa Ollen-Bittle, the previous police Crime Stoppers coordinator, returned to platoon services with the Norfolk Detachment of the OPP after completing a four and a half year assignment with the program.

Because Crime Stoppers gives people an anonymous, confidential way of getting information to authorities without ever having to get involved as a witness, the program has proven itself time and time again. In twenty years, almost 9000 anonymous tips have been received through the local 1-800-222-TIPS tipsline. Some of these tips have assisted investigators in seizing more than $30.7 million worth of illegal narcotics, recovering over $4.1 million worth of stolen property and laying more than 4800 charges – all in the areas of Tillsonburg, Norfolk and Haldimand! Cash rewards paid to local anonymous callers to date have totalled over $219,000.
