How does Crime Stoppers Work?
People are urged to call Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit anonymous tips online at www.helpsolvecrime.com with information about any crime.
All calls are 100% anonymous. Callers never have to give their name or testify in court.
Callers are assigned a unique code number when they call or email into the program. This code acts like a tipster’s name.
Crime Stoppers program coordinators take information from tipsters and then these tips are passed along to the proper agency for investigation (ie police, social services, etc).
Callers are asked to check back to the Crime Stoppers office to find out the status of their tip.
If a tip solves a case through an arrest or a charge, the caller becomes eligible for a cash reward.
Cash rewards can range from $50 to $2000 depending on the outcome of the investigation (ie number of charges, number of people involved, seriousness of the crime, etc).
The Crime Stoppers civilian board of directors authorizes reward amounts at monthly board meetings.
Rewards values are based on different factors (charges laid, value of property, etc).
Once approved, a reward is put in place at a pre-arranged location for pick up by the caller.
