Crime Stoppers Students Reminding You To "Lock It Or Lose It"

McKinnon Park Secondary School Crime Stoppers Students teamed up with Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk & Tillsonburg and the Haldimand County OPP to remind drivers to “Lock It or Lose It.”
“The goal of the “Lock It or Lose It” crime prevention program is to encourage drivers to take a few simple precautions that will help protect their vehicles and contents from theft,” explains Steve Baxter, teacher coordinator for the McKinnon Park Secondary School (MPSS) Crime Stoppers students.
On December 16th, McKinnon Park Crime Stoppers student volunteers checked vehicles at McKinnon Park Secondary School and the Zehrs Plaza parking lots to see if holiday shoppers were following a few simple rules: don’t leave valuables in plain view; always lock your car; protect your keys; don’t leave the engine running unattended; and don’t hide spare keys where you think thieves can’t find them (they can).
Drivers who did not follow these simple rules found a Lock It or Lose It notice under their windshield wiper that reminds them to better secure their vehicle next time.
The Crime Stoppers students checked over 200 vehicles and located approximately ten unlocked vehicles and approximately ten vehicles with valuables in plain view.
Keep yourself from becoming an easy target by properly securing your vehicle. Remember: “Lock It or Lose It!”
