Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg was notified recently that it was the recipient of five Crime Stoppers International Awards which were presented at the 30th annual Crime Stoppers International Training Conference.

The crime-fighting program was recognized with

  • a Productivity Award – for greatest increase in total property recovered
  • The Website of the Year Award (designed by Caledonia’s SlypigPro)
  • A CSI Media Award – Best Print Crime of the Week with The Sachem & Gazette
  • A CSI Media Award – Best Print Public Service Announcement with the Dunnville Chronicle
  • A CSI Media Award – Best Television Special Report with Rogers

All awards were presented for work done in the previous calendar year in the program’s respective population category (locally = 75,001– 250,000), except for the “Website of the Year Award,” which was presented to only one program worldwide! The conference was held from October 12 – 14, 2009, in Queensland, Australia and played host to approximately 300 delegates from 14 countries around the world. The local program was not present for the conference and received the awards via courier.

“Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg was extremely pleased to hear that we had won five international awards in conjunction with our partners,” said Gord Little, Chairperson of Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg. He adds, “The work that our media and business partners do on our behalf definitely is deserving of first class recognition.”

Crime Stoppers gives people an anonymous, confidential way of getting information to investigators without ever having to get involved as a witness and cash rewards up to $2000 are paid for information that helps to solve a case. The program’s toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) line and www.helpsolvecrime.com webtips are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Since the local program’s inception in 1988, Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg has helped investigators solve more than 3550 cases, has assisted in the seizure of over $36.7 million worth of narcotics and has assisted in the recovery of more than $4.9 million worth of stolen property.
