Local Crime Stoppers Receives International Acclamation

Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg has once again proven its excellence after receiving five international awards at the 29th annual Crime Stoppers International training conference in Des Moines, Iowa.

The crime-fighting program was recognized with one productivity award for greatest increase in total property. This award showcases the work done, not only by Crime Stoppers, but also its integral police agencies. Four media awards were also won by the local program celebrating the outstanding work of its media partners. Print media recognized with awards were The Tillsonburg News for “Best Special Feature” (series of jail or bail articles) and The Simcoe Reformer for “Best Public Service Announcement” (January’s Crime Stoppers awareness PSA page). Television and radio partners were also named winners and include CD 98.9 fm for “Best Special Report” (January Crime Stoppers Mrs Know It All segment) and CH for “Best Special Feature” (January Crime Stoppers feature). The conference was held from August 6 – 9, 2008. All awards are presented for work done in the previous calendar year in the program’s respective population category (locally = 75,001– 250,000).

“Time and time again, our local media partners have been recognized for excellence to Crime Stoppers and their dedication to community safety,” said Gord Little, Chairperson of Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg. He adds, “We contribute much of our program’s success to our media partners and the work they do to inform and educate the public about our anonymous tip program.”
