Appreciation Luncheon
Crime Stoppers Thanks Student Volunteers
Close to 40 secondary school students and teachers from five area high schools gathered at the Greens At Renton February 26, 2008 for the annual “Student Crime Stoppers Appreciation Luncheon.” The event, which is held each spring, gives Crime Stoppers of Haldimand, Norfolk and Tillsonburg a chance to thank students and teacher liaisons for their significant contributions to the Student Crime Stoppers program.
The event included information sharing, bursary discussion, brainstorming and gave students a chance to network with members of Student Crime Stoppers from other schools. Prior to a complimentary lunch, guests were also treated to a presentation by Constable Rob Page (and his dog Razor) from the Ontario Provincial Police West Region Canine Unit and Constable Brad Poultin from the Ontario Provincial Police West Region Emergency Response Team.
Dennis Shewburg, Crime Stoppers Vice-chairperson states, “The students and teachers at this luncheon have contributed in great ways to their Student Crime Stoppers programs and this luncheon is one of the ways we can say thank you to them for helping to make a difference in their respective schools.”
Student Crime Stoppers is an “in-school” crime prevention program that aims to reduce, prevent and solve incidents of school related crime and create a safer learning environment for students. Members of crime fighting program promote Crime Stoppers through announcements, posters, brochures, special events and fundraising. The Student Crime Stoppers program encourages students to report crime anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS or at www.helpsolvecrime.com.
